WEdge Viewer is a stand-alone customized Google Earth application designed to render all elements of PFPS planning data and will further connect to many data sources to capture as much of the battle space picture as possible.
Able to work on NIPR and SIPR, the WEdge Viewer can select approved DoD globes for imagery. Additionally, our application will be able to run from a stand-alone globe stored locally on a machine or a disconnected LAN.
Once a mission or sortie is planned, you can carry that planned route over to the Viewer for mission analysis or rehearsal. Being able to further mark up the environment with any data from DAFIF and other planned data sources like: Blue Force Tracker, Bird Dog, AHAS/BAM, etc. With the Viewer installed, Warfighters will be able to attain unparalleled situational awareness.
Sticking with the philosophy of creating easy to use, robust and simple to sustain products, The WEdge Viewer will seek to maximize effectiveness to the Warfighter while minimizing requirements for training and hardware/software purchase. The Viewer is planned to be released in early 2010 and will also be available with the PFPS 4.3 installer DVD.
The WEdge Viewer is under development by The WEdge Team at The United States Air Force Academy's Institute for Information Technology Applications (USAFA/IITA) under the direction of Gen (Ret.) James P. McCarthy. The WEdge Team is led by Lt Col Andy "Skipper" Berry, a Warfighter and visionary of a suite of products designed for aircrew by aircrew.
